Where is my journal?

On your iPhone. With an Orae account (optional), it's also backed up privately, and signing in on a new iPhone brings it all back. Without an account, nobody (including us) can recover entries for you, so make backup files.

Accounts

Story → Account → Sign in or create account. Backups run on their own a few seconds after each change. If you forget your password, use Forgot password? on the sign-in screen: we email you a code to set a new one. Creating an account also asks for a code we email you, so check the address is right.

Backup files

Story → Backup file → Back up everything makes one file with your journal and every recording. Save it to Files or iCloud Drive. Restore from a backup adds anything that isn't already on the phone and never removes anything.

Transcription isn't working

The first transcription in a language downloads Apple's speech model, so it needs an internet connection once. After that it works offline. Recordings are saved even when transcription fails, and you can try again later.

Importing old journals

Journal → Import takes .txt, .md and .rtf files, a folder of them, or pasted text. A date on its own line starts a new entry. You can undo an import right after it.

Deleting everything

With an account: Story → Account → Delete account removes your account and its backup right away. Then delete the Orae app from your iPhone; everything it stored there is deleted with it.
